NFL 2010 Preseason Week 3 Notes
Colts vs Packers
Colts
- 1st string offense had 8 drives. Manning’s no huddle offense is affected by new rule having ref behind him. MNF guys talked about it. Manning still showed why he’s a top 3 QB

- 1st string offense had 6 drives. Nate, Gage, and Scaife rested and did not dress. Vince Young throws some perfect balls sometimes…and under pressure. Other times, he’s WAY off.
- Rushing (Attempts): Chris Johnson (8), Vince Young (1), Ringer (3)
- Receiving (Targets): TE Craig Stevens (3), WR Hawkins (2), Britt (4) – should have dragged feet on a sideline catch and didn’t so pass was incomplete, Chris Johnson (1)
- Offensive Play Selection: All about the run even though the Panthers were playing great run defense so they never got a sustained drive. Hardly passed the ball…awful.
- O-Line: Run-blocking = Average, Pass blocking = Awful
- Defense: Run defense = Excellent, Pass defense = Good…D-Line deflected a few balls
- Beyond 1st String:

Panthers
- 1st string offense had 7 drives. No Steve Smith or Jonathan Stewart. Moore finally threw his first nice deep pass with 1 min 30 seconds left, but in general Matt Moore didn’t produce because of the lack of passing offense and being out-of-sync with his receivers (they one run route, he throws in a different direction).
- Rushing (Attempts): DeAngelo Williams (9) – too many defenders on him and no running room usually, Tyrelle Sutton (3), Mike Goodson (5), Matt Moore (1), FB Josh Vaughn (1)
- Receiving (Targets): TE Dante Rosario (4) – caught deep one, DeAngelo Williams (1), WR Wallace Wright (2) – starter…nice leaping sideline catch…but then fumbled the ball and got hurt (1), Jarrett (1) – starter…blew by secondary but Moore way overthrew him, FB Tony Fiametti (3) – dropped an easy one, WR Kenneth Moore (3), LaFell (5) – dropped an easy one…made a nice juke after catch, TE Jeff King (2), WR Gettis (5) – rookie…got all the targets during the 2 minute drive, RB Trent Guy (1), TE Gary Barnidge (1), RB Edwards (3), Tyrelle Sutton (1)
- Offensive Play Selection: Also all about the run which was stalling the drives because the Titans D was all over stopping the run. Passing offense was terrible…when they needed 3rd and long, passes were too short, etc. Finally got down the field during the 2 minute drill because the offense was pass heavy.
- O-Line: Run-blocking = Good, Pass blocking = Good
- Defense: Run defense = Excellent, Pass defense = Excellent…on 1st drive 3rd and long had 4 man rush coverage sack…on 2nd, 5th and 6th drives blitz sacked Young…kept the blitzes coming which were getting through the line to Young
- Beyond 1st String:
- Other:
Giants vs Ravens
Ravens
- 1st string offense had 6 drives. Flacco is a great QB who is inaccurate at times and doesn’t throw deep. Did make one really bad pass (threw behind Boldin) that got picked.

- Defense: Run defense = Excellent, Pass defense = Great…kept pressuring Eli/Boumar…got sack on 4th drive…tipped pass and got INT
- Beyond 1st String:
- Other:
Giants
- 1st string offense had 7 drives. Manning was QB for 1st 6 drives and he threw a handful of good passes but the rest were either well defended or off. Boumar for the 7th.
- Rushing (Attempts): Bradshaw (7) – two nice stiff arms and showed speed past diving LBs…also knows how to navigate between his blockers really well…unfortunately ran 3 times trying to get 1 yd and could not, Brandon Jacobs (7) – if he can’t get ahead of steam…he goes no where.
- Receiving (Targets): Hakeem Nicks (7) – great hands and YAC yards…end zone target, Steve Smith (8), Brandon Jacobs (2), Bradshaw (2), TE Boss (1), WR Derek Hagan (1)
- Offensive Play Selection: Never able to drive down the field…either poor decisions by Eli or poor play selection because Eli was pressured but had some time to throw
- O-Line: Run-blocking = Average, Pass blocking = Average
- Defense: Run defense = Great, Pass defense = Good…got sack on 1st and 6th drives, coverage sack on 2nd drive…kept pressuring Flacco
- Beyond 1st String:
- Other:
Steelers vs Broncos
Broncos
- 1st string offense had 7 drives. No Moreno or Buckhalter. Orton got hurt on 3rd drive…but came back. Orton looked amazing…too bad he didn’t throw the ball more. - Beyond 1st String:
- Other:

- Offensive Play Selection: 1st drive was three passes and a disaster. Except for the Addai TD run, the rest were for short yardage. Diverse pass plays.

- Defense: Dominated the Bills line for the most part, but had some poor tackling and blown coverages
- Beyond 1st String: Nice back-to-back 25+ yard catches by WR Taj Smith
Bills
- 1st string offense had 5 drives. Edwards was under pressure most of the time…stupidly threw to a covered Evans one time, etc.
- Rushing (Attempts): C.J. Spiller (9) – started…had a sick 30+ TD run juking defenders with ease…when given good run blocking made the most of it and looks like a top 10 RB, Roscoe Parrish (1)
- Receiving (Targets): Roscoe Parrish (3), Lee Evans (2) – finally had good pass blocking and caught a 70 yard TD reception, Steve Johnson (2), C.J. Spiller (1)
- Offensive Play Selection: Pass plays are terrible, Run plays are much better

Eagles vs Bengals
Bengals
- 1st string offense had 6 drives. Palmer is really Jekyl and Hyde with his passing accuracy. Palmer had a wide open T.O. and chose to throw to Ocho Cinco which was a direct pass to an Eagle…in the next drive he tried to hit Ocho Cinco on a long one and was too high and ahead of him…on the 3rd drive, he finally hit a wide open Ocho Cinco but still threw too high. Palmer missed Ocho on a deep one of the 5th drive too

- O-Line: Average run and pass defense
- Defense: Great run defense…good pass defense

- Defense: Excellent…Eagles defense was stout minus the bomb to T.O. followed by the Scott TD run
- Beyond 1st String: Vick was under pressure constantly…threw 2 picks…looked awful
Steelers vs Giants
Giants
- 1st string offense had 5 drives. No Eli Manning. No Jacobs because of a stiff neck. Hakeem Nicks got ejected for throwing a punch. D.J. Ware got hurt on kick-off play. Except for the 4th drive, QB Rhett Bomar never really got the offense going.

- Beyond 1st String:
Steelers

Ravens vs Redskins
Redskins
- 1st string offense had 7 drives. On 1st drive, McNabb missed a short pass to Sellers, missed pass across middle to Cooley, underthrew Armstrong on 45 yarder, missed Armstrong in end zone. But, when maneuvering to get away from pressure he made some nice underneath passes.
- Rushing (Attempts): Larry Johnson (8) – slow…no good, Portis (2) – showed much more speed than LJ

- O-Line: Run blocking was below average…Made no running room for LJ. Pass blocking was also below average.
- Defense: Excellent pass coverage but below average run coverage
- Beyond 1st String:
