We’ve done 3 more mock drafts in the past week and below is our analysis!
- 3rd Mock Draft on July 28th
- 4th Mock Draft on July 28th
- 5th Mock Draft on August 4th
Eddie Says:
Well… trends are making themselves apparent now.
Adrian Peterson is going first. No shock there. Fitzgerald rarely makes it top R1 Pick 10 and shortly thereafter both Randy Moss and Andre Johnson get drafted. There’s a clear line between the stud WR1 and the “normal” WR1 and if you draft late it may just be wise to draft one of these because you can snag a decent RB1 early in the second round 1.
What is even more interesting is that Greg Jennings tends to make it to late 2nd round so if you pick early chances are you’ll be privy to him or the likes of Calvin Johnson and Reggie Wayne.
Rounds 1-5 are going to create the core of your team so pay attention carefully to these trends. Potential steals will exist in rounds 3 and 4 if you draft carefully.
Round 8-9 is where you should be able to pick up a top 3 Defense.
Players now on my radar for potential early draft expectations or late round steals.
- Darren McFadden
- Patrick Crayton
- Josh Morgan
- Sage Rosenfels
- Peyton Hillis
- Donald Brown
We should get at least one or two more mock drafts in before live drafts start taking place so stay tuned.
Fred.. on to you……
The Fred Zone:
3rd Mock Draft Squad (with the 9th pick):
- Frank Gore – As I’ve said before, he’ll be top 10 this year
- Ryan Grant – A little early for him here, but he’s a guaranteed low end RB1
- T.J. Houshmandzadeh – He’s a lock to get plenty of targets
- Braylon Edwards – He’s a slight risk, but he’s got game, and should lead the Browns in targets
- Chris Wells – If he can stay healthy, could be the most productive rookie RB of ’09
- Kellen Winslow – Will lead the Bucs in targets and receiving TDs
- Willie Parker – Not happy with this pick…going to go after someone else for my 4th RB
- Jay Cutler – He’s a steal in the 8th round
- Minnesota Defense – Top 5 D…nuff said
- Vernon Davis – #1 TE sleeper of ’09
- San Diego Defense – Another Top 5 D
- Deion Branch – So talented, but not sure how involved in the offense he’s going to be. Need to research.
- Mark Clayton – Happy with him as my 4th WR
- Neil Rackers – He’s one of the top kickers
- Marc Bulger – It’s do or die for the Bulge, but not happy with him as my 2nd QB. If I end up getting my 2nd QB this late, will draft Rosenfels instead.
4th Mock Draft Squad (with the 11th pick). NOTE: For the same players, I’m not going to provide any commentary.
- Deangelo Williams – Fantasy Football prognosticators either love or hate him this year. With Stewart already having injury issues before preseason, I’m leaning towards loving him right now.
- Brian Westbrook – As long as he’s healthly, he’s lead the Eagles in touches again (carries + receptions)
- Brandon Marshall – Has the talent to be a top 5 WR, but everything around him is a giant question mark
- Roy Williams – He’s their #1 WR in Big D
- Chris Wells
- Kellen Winslow
- Julius Jones – Like him more than Willie, but got to see if he’s the ol’ explosive Jones from a few years ago
- Jay Culter
- Vernon Davis
- Matt Hasselbeck – As I’ve mentioned before, my #1 sleeper QB of ’09
- Baltimore Defense – With the brain (Rex Ryan) and Bart Scott gone, not sure about this pick
- Deion Branch
- Tennessee Defense – I’m cool with this as my 2nd defense, but would like better
- Stephen Gostkowski
- Ronald Curry – Can’t wait to see how he looks in the Rams offense during preseason
5th Mock Draft Squad (with the 6th pick):
- Steven Jackson – He’s going to be a stud this year. Don’t listen to anyone else.
- Frank Gore – I about fell out when I was able to STEAL him mid-2nd round
- Dwayne Bowe – In a, what should be, pass heavy offense…LOVE Bowe this year
- Chad Ocho Cinco – Stupid glitch with the website gave me him…not sure about Ocho Cinco this year
- Darren McFadden – With so many of the bench RBs stock falling, his stock is rising. Love this pick!
- Chris Cooley – He was the last TE left in my upper tier. Score!
- Jay Culter – Yeah, I’ve drafted Culter the last 3 mock drafts. I just see him as such a big upgrade over Orton in Chicago.
- Jerricho Cotchery – My favorite 3rd WR pick in all the mock drafts. He’ll lead the Jets in targets, is the most talented WR on the team, and is in his prime.
- Matt Hasselbeck – I have to have him as my 2nd QB this year!
- Earnest Graham – He’s a very good RB, and is a starter. So as my 4th RB, I’m quite pleased.
- San Diego Defense – A top 5 D in the 11th round…oh yeah!
- Green Bay Defense – Love these guys this year. I’m considering waiting and getting them as my #1 Defense.
- Deion Branch – I still need to do more research on my late round 4th WR. I really want Josh Morgan in San Fran, but Devin Thomas in Washington is also intriguing.
- Heath Miler – Vernon Davis was drafted much earlier than usual, so I waited and got Heath Bar late
- Neil Rackers – I like him
