2008-2009 NFL Week 6 Picks

October 9th, 2008 · No Comments

Greg Jennings and Donald Driver celebrate2008 NFL Week 6

Sunday – 12 October 2008St Louis Rams @ Washington Redskins

Eddie: (Winner – Redskins)

The Rams will eventually have to win 1 game but I doubt it will be against a hot Skins team.

Fred: (Winner – Redskins)

Off a bye week, and with a new coach, who knows what you’re going to get with the Rams.  The Redskins have performed like a solid all around team against some tough opponents.  Redskins win and go 5-1.

Miami Dolphins @ Houston Texans

Eddie: (Winner – Texans)

Just like the Rams the Texans will eventually have to win 1 game and this is it.  At home and hungry the Texans will blow past the Dolphins.

Fred: (Winner – Dolphins)

Is Houston jinxed this year?  They barely lost the last two weeks.  The game before those, the sure-handed Andre Johnson drops 5 passes!  Dolphins on the other hand have somehow managed to beat the Pats and the Chargers the last two weeks.  I have to go with the spread on this one and go with the Dolphins.

Detroit Lions @ Minnesota Vikings

Eddie: (Winner – Vikings)

I can see AP breaking the single game rushing record in this game.

Fred: (Winner – Vikings)

The Vikings have yet to crush anyone this year.  It’s now time.  This will be a brutal beatdown. Vikings win by 14+.

Oakland Raiders @ New Orleans Saints

Eddie: (Winner – Saints)

Get used to seeing Bush in the highlights because it won’t stop this Sunday against the Raiders.  Fargas is back in action for the Raiders so maybe he can stimulate the offense.

Fred: (Winner – Saints)

With the “Cable”man as the new coach, do the Raiders have a chance?  Actually, yes they do.  Fargas is back.  The Saints have consistently made a ton of mistakes, especially penalties, this season thus far.  The Saints should win, but it will be a close one.

Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Eddie: (Winner – Panthers)

Tough tough pick here.  Divisional game here so both teams know each other well.  I’ll go with the hot offensive team.

Fred: (Winner – Panthers)

Jeff Garcia will lead the Bucs passing offense, which means the passing offense will barely exist.  This defensive matchup will lead to a low scoring game with the Panthers coming out on top.  Upset pick #1!

Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Jets

Eddie: (Winner – Jets)

With Palmer out and the running back position unknown the Bengals have no chance.

Fred: (Winner – Jets)

Fitzpatrick will be the starting QB against a Jets team that’s fresh off a bye week and at home.  Jets win.

Baltimore Ravens @ Indianapolis Colts

Eddie: (Winner – Ravens)

We are looking at a Colts team that could easily be 0-4.  Something is lacking and the Ravens will exploit that.

Fred: (Winner – Colts)

I can’t help but believe in Peyton.  The Colts have made the playoffs every year since 2002.  2003 and beyond their record has been 12-4 or better.  The Colts will make the playoffs this year, so they’ll win this one and go 3-2.

Chicago Bears @ Atlanta Falcons

Eddie: (Winner – Bears)

Believe it or not this was another tough choice for me.  I want to go with the home team but I think the Bears defense will prove to be too much for the rook Ryan.

Fred: (Winner – Bears)

Orton looks to be a good QB this year, Forte is the man, and the Bears D is pretty darn good.  The Falcons have Burner Turner, but an average D and a rookie QB.  Bears win.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Denver Broncos

Eddie: (Winner – Broncos)

I learned this lesson already.  Denver in mile high = sure win.

Fred: (Winner – Broncos)

Broncos at home…nuff said.  Denver gets win and goes 5-1.

Philadelphia Eagles @ San Francisco 49ers

Eddie: (Winner – Eagles)

Two weeks in a row I go with the 49ers and lose both of them.   Guess who I’m not going to pick this week.

Fred: (Winner – Eagles)

Mike Martz needs to add some more shorter pass plays to O’Sullivan’s reportoir because he leads the NFL in getting sacked!  Even without Westbrook and Reggie Brown, Eagles have their way with the Niners and get the “W”.

Green Bay Packers @ Seattle Seahawks

Eddie: (Winner – Packers)

I don’t expect the Seattle team we saw last week to be the same team we see this week but it still won’t be enough to take down the Packs.

Fred: (Winner – Packers)  <= UPSET PICK OF THE WEEK!

It’s looking like no Hasselbeck for this game so this pick is a no-brainer.  Packers are WAY overdue to pummel an opponent.  The Packers win by A TON!  Upset Pick #2!

Dallas Cowboys @ Arizona Cardinals

Eddie: (Winner – Cowboys)

As you saw last week the Cardinals are a tough team at home.  They are explosive on the offensive side of the ball and if they can get to Romo enough and make him panic they might have a chance to win.

Fred: (Winner – Cowboys)

The Cardinals beating the Cowboys?  It just doesn’t sound right.  Cowboys win.

New England Patriots @ San Diego Chargers

Eddie: (Winner – Chargers)

I’m still waiting for the Chargers team we’ve all been waiting for.  Chambers and LT are injured but I don’t think that stops them from winning a close one against the Pats.

Fred: (Winner – Chargers)

This is by far, the most intriguing game of the week.  If the New England wins, they go 4-1, which is hard to believe with the pounding they took from the Dolphins weeks ago.  If the Chargers lose, they go 2-4, and they can basically kiss the playoffs good-bye.  This truly is a MUST win for the Chargers, and they’re at home, so they get the “W”.

Monday – 13 October 2008

New York Giants @ Cleveland Browns

Eddie: (Winner – Browns)

Braylon Edwards comes alive on Monday night while the Browns upset the Giants on Monday night.

Fred: (Winner – Giants)

We’ve had some high-scoring, exciting Monday night games this year.  Will this be another one?  Off a bye week, at home, under the Monday night lights…the Browns should come out guns-a-blazin’, right?  I have no friggin’ clue!  I do know that if Eli doesn’t screw up, the Giants are virtually unbeatable.  I have to go with the Giants, but I sure would like to see the Browns be competitive.
