2008 NFL Week 5
Sunday – 5 October 2008
Atlanta Falcons @ Green Bay Packers
Eddie: (Winner – Packers)
Because this is in Green Bay and the Packers defense is relatively well I don’t see the Falcons making much noise.
Fred: (Winner – Packers)
The Falcons are 0-2 away thus far. As of Friday night, Rodgers teammates are all saying he’s playing, and if so, the Packers should win this home game to go 3-2 on the season.
Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions
Eddie: (Winner – Bears)
DA Bears.
Fred: (Winner – Bears)
The Lions have everything going for them this week: 1) Off a bye week 2) No more Matt Millen 3) At home. The Bears have a way better O-Line, defense, and special teams. Bears get the win and go 3-2.
Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans
Eddie: (Winner – Colts)
I actually sat for a couple of minutes and have this feeling the Texans will come out the victor but after a bye week it’s hard to imagine the Peyton and the Colts losing.
Fred: (Winner – Colts)
Off a bye week, the Colts are ready to prove their a playoff bound team. They thump the lowly Texans in their own, slightly damaged house.
Kansas City Chiefs @ Carolina Panthers
Eddie: (Winner – Panthers)
Chiefs got their one win of the season so this one is a lock.
Fred: (Winner – Panthers)
With Huard at QB, the Chiefs are going to make this competitive. With Herm as coach, they won’t win. Carolina wins at home and goes 4-1.
San Diego Chargers @ Miami Dolphins
Eddie: (Winner – Chargers)
I think Miami may have scored all their touchdowns for the season last week. Chargers might be last in passing defense but it won’t show this week.
Fred: (Winner – Chargers)
Miami shocked the world two weeks ago putting the Patriots over their knees, dropping the Patriots pants, and spanking their bare behinds in public. Last week the Dolphins had a bye, and this week at home, the Chargers are a 6 1/2 point favorite. The Chargers look like the best team in the AFC right now, so I’ll give Chargers the win, the Dolphins will keep it close.
Seattle Seahawks @ New York Giants
Eddie: (Winner – Giants)
Giants are just the better team – especially at home.
Fred: (Winner – Giants)
If you can’t tell, I tend to favor picking teams that come off a bye week, and the Giants are another one of them. The Seahawks have two of their stud WRs back from injury though and word is in practice Hasselbeck, Engram, and Branch haven’t missed a beat. As long as the good Eli Manning plays on most drives, the Giants should get the win. But it will be a close one!
Tennessee Titans @ Baltimore Ravens
Eddie: (Winner – Titans)
The Ravens’ rookie QB looked poised last week but the Tennessee defensive players are Titans.
Fred: (Winner – Titans)
The spread has Tennessee as ONLY a 2 point favorite! Find your bookie and get rich on this game! Ravens lost a rough OT game against the Steelers last Monday. As soon as the Steelers turned up the defensive pressure, we saw the “rookie” in QB Flacco. Well, the Titans defense is even better. The Titans, which look like the 2nd best team in the AFC, will DESTROY the tired Ravens!
Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles
Eddie: (Winner – Eagles)
Three in a row for the Skins so the streak stops here in Phily.
Fred: (Winner – Eagles)
Redskins are a good team, but not as good as the Eagles. Campell throws his first INT and Eagles offense goes to work on the Redskins defense. At home, Philly gets the “W” and goes 3-2.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Denver Broncos
Eddie: (Winner – Broncos)
I learned this lesson already. Denver in mile high = sure win.
Fred: (Winner – Broncos)
Bucs defense gets shredded by the insane Denver passing offense. In Denver, Broncos win.
Buffalo Bills @ Arizona Cardinals
Eddie: (Winner – Cardinals)
There needs to be one game that’s a shocker right? Well this is it.
Fred: (Winner – Bills)
As of Saturday morning, the Bills are a 1 point underdog. The home starved Cardinals will be competitive, but the Bills are a better all-around team. I’ll take the Bills. Upset pick #1!
Cincinnati Bengals @ Dallas Cowboys
Eddie: (Winner – Cowboys)
As if the Bengals offense would all of a sudden come together in Dallas.
Fred: (Winner – Cowboys)
The best team in the NFC cannot lose two weeks in a row…especially to the pathetic Bungals. Yes, that nickname is back for 2008! In “Big D”, Cowboys easily win this one and go 4-1.
New England Patriots @ San Francisco 49ers
Eddie: (Winner – 49ers)
Aging Patriots defense with an out of touch offense = 49ers win.
Fred: (Winner – 49ers) => UPSET PICK OF THE WEEK!
In New Orleans last week, the Niners look awful. The Patriots looked awful in their last game two weeks ago. Coming off a bye week, Belichick has an extra week to prepare. Still, at home, I’m going to believe that the Martz offense puts up more yards and points on the once great Patriots defense. Upset pick #2!
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Eddie: (Winner – Jaguars)
Two teams not living up to this season’s expectations. Go with the home team.
Fred: (Winner – Steelers)
Even though their last two wins weren’t pretty, and they’re playing a better team this week, I’m still compelled to pick the Steelers. I think the Steelers offense will be much more no huddle and through the air, which they are EXTREMELY effective with. With the depleted O-Line, Garrard will be under a lot of pressure and the MJD/Freddie combo will have to break tackles in the backfield. Steelers get the “W”.
Monday – 6 October 2008
Minnesota Vikings @ New Orleans Saints
Eddie: (Winner – Saints)
Saints offense will prove to be too much.
Fred: (Winner – Vikings)
The Saints really crushed the Niners last week at home. Is that potent Saints offense back? Against the Vikings, no. Brees will get a few home run deep ball completions, but not enough to outscore the Vikings. The dominiting LT McKinnie is back! With a healthy AP and Gussy-Poo, the Vikings offense is going to explode. Also, the Vikings will go to the playoffs, so to go 2-3, they must have this win. Upset pick #3!
