Raiders add a former fantasy stud Javon Walker (WR) and an underachieving (thus far) Drew Carter (WR). The insane amout of money the Raiders are giving Walker means he will definitely be the Raiders #1 WR. Even though he’s 29, he’s had three operations on his right knee, which makes him somewhat of a risk. As a starter for almost half the games last year in Carolina, Carter had a chance to make a name for himself. But, with Delhomme being hurt, and the backup QBs being busts, I’ll give Carter a pass on last year. This upcoming season, in Oakland, both receivers are walking into a passing offense nightmare. Even though I love their OC, Knapp, the Raiders O-Line has stunk, and Russell is a huge question mark. In 2008, if healthy, as a big/expensive target for Russell, Walker should get the majority of targets. He’s a low end fantasy WR2. But, if you draft him, try to handcuff him with Ronald Curry because if the Raiders pass offense does take off, either Walker or Curry will be the fantasy stud. The jury is still out on Carter, so I wouldn’t draft him.
Also, in this offseason, the Raiders have added the following players: Gibril Wilson (SS) and Kwame Harris (RT). Wilson was a great pickup, but Harris was not.
Check out this great TD catch by Walker and this awesome leaping catch by Carter:
