Chargers signed LB Derek Smith. He’s 33 years old, and battled minor injuries the last two seasons, which explains his below-average statistics (69 tackles in 2006 and 78 in 2007). He knows the game well, so even if his performance on the field isn’t stellar, his presence in San Diego should help his fellow linebackers.
