The First “Post 2007 Regular Season” Major Coaching Addition: Mike Martz is the new OC in San Fran

January 10th, 2008 · No Comments

Mike Martz49ers 49ers fans, and 2008 Fantasy Football owners of Frank Gore and crew, rejoice! The atrocious plays drawn up by Jim Hostler are no more. This year, the Niners had the worst offense in the league…by a landslide! The 30th ranked offense was the Bills with 4,434 total yards, the 31st ranked offense was the Chiefs with 4,429 yards, and the dead last Niners had 3,797 yards. That’s a difference of 600+ yards from the 31st ranked offense. Horrific! Mark my words…Mike Martz will make an immediate impact. It doesn’t matter if the QB is Alex Smith or Shaun Hill. In 1998, before Martz, the Rams offense was ranked 27th in the NFL. In 1999 with Martz, they became the #1 offense in the NFL! In 2005, before Martz, the Lions offense was ranked 27th in the NFL. In 2006 with Martz, they became the #22 offense, and in 2007, the #19 offense. At first glance, I’m sure most of you are saying, “That’s not much of an improvement.” In 2006, the Lions were the 2nd highest sacked offense and, in 2007, the 3rd highest. The Lions O-Line was dreadful. Kitna, a mediocre QB at best, threw for over 4,000 yards in his two years with Martz. Everyone has seen what Martz can do with (or without) the right talent, so there’s no doubt the Niners offense will be vastly improved in 2008.
